I’ve always been into IT and computer science – right from when I was a kid. I didn’t have a computer myself, so I borrowed my friends’ to work on and taught myself the basics. I moved from my home in Croatia to Germany to train in IT, as I felt I needed to get more hands-on experience. Then, in September 2018, I began my training as an IT specialist for system integration at eder.
The practical side
I’m the guy who makes sure the agency’s IT infrastructure runs without a hitch. I monitor the technical aspects of our hardware and software at all times and introduce new products. It’s also my job to help my colleagues work effectively by setting up and configuring their computers and stepping in when problems occur. I’m always on the lookout for new ideas and ways we can use automation to work more efficiently. Finally, I’m also responsible for the agency’s archive and digital vaults, where all the data for completed projects is stored and ongoing projects are backed up at regular intervals.
The theory
My IT theory studies at the it.schule training centre in Stuttgart gave me a wide range of knowledge – from programming and databases, through web development, to economics and business studies. One of the areas we majored on here was networks. We used network simulations to learn about all the key issues, starting with the underlying technical elements and how they worked. The theory side of hardware and subsequent practical applications were also part of my three-year course.
Looking ahead
The combination of my studies at it.schule and real-world experience of IT at work in the agency have taught me a huge amount. In July 2021, I successfully completed my training as a IT specialist for system integration and was made a permanent member of the IT team at eder. I’ve really enjoyed the last three years and am looking forward to the projects I’ll be involved in at the agency in the future.
